About Us

A Group with a Common Passion

Bulwell Runners part of Runspire Nottingham! It's a friendly and supportive running group that meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 pm at Ken Martin Leisure Centre, Bulwell. We run on different routes depending on the season, but we always enjoy the beauty of our surroundings, whether it's the urban landscape in winter or the rural scenery in summer. We welcome runners of all abilities, from beginners to intermediates, from people who want to get back into running to people who just love a 5K run with a wonderful group of friends. We have sessions that suit your fitness level, ranging from gentle runs of a few kilometres to more challenging runs of up to 7 kilometres. Our sessions are fun and last about an hour. We started our running group in February 2022, and since then we have grown rapidly, with an average of 20 - 30 runners per session. We are a registered charity that promotes running for fitness, wellbeing, positive mental health and social interactions. We want to help people make running and socialising a part of their everyday life, through social running and group exercise. We are run by volunteers who are passionate about encouraging people to get outdoors, breathe some fresh air, and enjoy running in the countryside with good company and camaraderie. We aim to make running accessible and enjoyable for everyone, so no matter what your experience level is, you will always find a warm welcome here. We are focused on helping others integrate running into their lifestyle. We believe that running can help people with social anxiety, fitness, and general wellbeing. That's why we offer a comprehensive 'Walk to Jog' program, as well as our popular Couch to 5K course, and our 5K’ers to improve stamina, confidence, and comfort with running; sessions are usually full of laughter, chatting and great fun!

What People Say

"Nervous before starting a new group but was quickly made to feel welcome and part of the gang." "Never thought I would say that I look forward to running twice a week." "Great experience love how supportive everyone is and how the run leaders interact so well with all runners of all abilities." "Love this group and I’ve enjoyed my Nordic walking lessons! We have had so many laughs along the way 🤣 Please come and give it a try, if it’s not for you, no problem. The group do other activities, from walking to social running. Nordic walking is probably the next best exercise to swimming. 80 to 90 percent of your muscles are impacted 👍👌 love it! O, and poles are provided!" "My experience as part of the c25k group far surpassed any expectations I had. I joined the group to help with my fitness and to increase my exercise as within the last year I've lost a significant amount of weight and felt to continue this journey I would need to put the exercise in. As my husband already ran in local park runs I saw the group and thought I'd try and who knows maybe we would have a hobby we could share together. Honestly though I don't think i thought I would ever complete it. From the first week I felt welcomed and not once did I feel uncomfortable even though I couldn't run for 1 minute back at week 1. Knowing I was starting a journey with others in the same situation really helped and together we shared our experiences tips and fears." "My experience in this group is amazing, all very supportive and help you to achieve every session, with a Moto of nobody gets left behind, love this group!" "Friendly runners, supportive run leader and fellow runners, and the group stayed together." "I joined on a couch to 5K and was quite nervous about being the newbie. How wrong was I, what an incredible group of people who quickly put me at ease and made me feel included. No amount of words could thank the group enough for making me feel part of the group and for putting all my fears and nerves to rest. I would advise anyone to give it a go!" "I have found it really helpful. I suffer with an illness, so was scared that I wouldn't be able to it, but with the guidance and support I have managed to complete the couch to 5k. The leaders were really helpful with guidance on how to improve and what to do if it was one of those days where it just wasn't going right. Fully recommended to all who want to give it a go!" "A perfect opportunity to join an incredible friendly group that helps everyone, so no one gets left behind. “This group is an amazing and the support from all is incredible, when I joined I was very nervous about it and I felt part of it as soon as I met everyone, all so friendly and approachable it’s like one big happy family, if you feel the same way as I do please let everybody know how you feel, before I joined I thought I would never complete the 5k or be in a social running group, you have truly been amazing to me with support to keep me going through everything x”

Our Mission & Group Values

Changing peoples life for the better

Our mission: We passionately believe that running changes lives for the better and we want to help as many people as possible to achieve their goals, whether health, fitness or just to be more sociable and have fun through jogging and running. We know that when people run together, they are more likely to keep running. This drives us to develop fun, friendly, supportive and inclusive opportunities for everyone to run with other people. Through our couch to 5K running course, and social running group. All groups will encourage wellbeing, fitness, positive mental health and increase social interaction. In a friendly, safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment. We will operate not-for-profit, and any surplus funds are reinvested in the group, or used to encourage others into the sport of running. To also train members to become run leaders, mental health champions, mental health first aiders and running guides for partially sighted and bind people.   Please note, we are not an athletics club so do not focus on times, paces and distances. We are here just to enjoy being outside and running with great people. Our group values: Fun: Running should be a pleasure, not a chore. We want to create fun experiences that make people want to run more.  Friendly and non-competitive: You can be sure of a friendly welcome to the Bulwell Runners.     Inclusive: Running is for everyone, every age, gender, ethnicity and ability. We want to run with you. No one left Behind!     Supportive: We all started as beginners and know how that feels; our community support and encourage one another to achieve their goals, whatever they may be. Wellbeing and mental health: We want running to have a great positive impact on your wellbeing and mental health.
